Solar pool heaters
Solar pool heaters are systems comprised of many components. This system
requires careful research, shopping, comparison and installation. But
once you’ve paid for and installed the equipment, your utility
bill will begin to show the offset in just two to three years.
Before selecting and installing solar pool heaters, consider the following:
• Solar resources – is there enough consistent sunlight
to generate the amount of heat needed?
• Size and space – the size and shape of your pool, dimensions
of the surrounding space and your roof (where solar collectors work
best) desired pool temperature are all variables that need to be evaluated.
• Thermal performance rating
• Cost comparisons – materials and installation in relation
to estimated utility savings – is it worth it to you?
• Residential building codes – will your solar system fall
under the purview of city codes (roof load), neighborhood covenants,
etc.?
• Insurance stipulations
Choosing solar pool heaters takes time and careful research to investigate
all the variables. But getting one is a great option if your budget
and size requirements are all met. After two or three years, the power
needed to heat your pool will be completely free for the life of the
equipment (usually about 20 years).
